Has anyone modified or customized their 50 GI conversion unit for Glocks?
If so, in what way and why?
Just curious........

Since Michigan just made it legal to own and use suppressors, I am participating in a group suppressor purchase to celebrate the event! I will need a threaded barrel so I just ordered a 6" barrel from Guncrafter for my .50GI Glock conversion. The upper will need to be sent back to Guncrafter to custom fit the new 6" heavy target barrel. Silencerco has a youtube review of a suppressed Glock .50GI Guncrafter conversion with their innovative Osprey suppressor that is very impressive.

Agreed! The .50GI has it's own distinctive report that sounds more throaty and full bodied than smaller calibers. On the other hand, a suppressor lets you hear that big fat slug slap, smack, thump, zing or ring the target upon impact. It's all good!

It reminds me of the difference between a .270 and .375 H&H I used to own.

Silencerco has agreed to thread my Glock .50GI barrel for a very reasonable price and quick turn around time. They will use metric threads 16x1LH (left hand) for the Osprey suppressor. Just so happens that the Glock/.50GI barrel is on the thin side and 16x1LH is all that is available. Mike Pappas of Silencerco says that it will "work fine". The Osprey can be configured to accept a variety of thread sizes so If you want a little more beef in your suppressed barrel I would suggest you thread the Guncrafter model 1,2 or 3. but you will pay Guncrafter over $500 to have a longer barrrel fitted to your gun. Maybe in the future, Guncrafter will make a threaded barrel a standard option.

835gr 12ga slugs stuffed in RMC lathe turned 3" brass shells over 147gr of RL 17.
Shooting 5 of these in one day is about my limit! Any more causes dain brammage.

I will be adding weight to my workout soon.
The little slug on the left is a 255gr. 50 caliber.
The center .729dia. projectile weighs 835gr.
The big slug is .722 and is designed to have a paper jacket
that will bring it up to .729dia. It weighs in at 1200 grains!

I set up a H&R ultra slug hunter with heavy 1.2"dia. bull barrel and hollow survival stock filled with bird shot to bring the weight of the gun to a little over 20 pounds.
Add a delux rubber recoil pad and a magnum recoil chest guard.
Five shots off hand is about all for me.
The scope that came with the shotgun was destroyed after the first 3 shots.
I have a lead sled II shooting rest and add another 20 pounds of lead.
Now recoil is pleasant. Others have shot it without going to the hospital.
The 835gr. slugs blow through telephone pole stubs.

If you have a muzzle velocity estimate, I can calculate muzzle and free recoil energy. I'll be baack!

I have not run my slugs over a chrony.
It was an ordeal just sighting in the new scope.
My loads do not approach what has been done with RL17 and heavy slugs.

Below is a quote from what others have tried with 12ga in sturdy shotguns:

"I got in RMC case one of RG's 715gr jkt slugs to 2300fps with 160 gr of RE-17"

Should make for some interesting calculations!

1200 grain
1800 f/s (assumed)
147 grain powder
20 lb gun
Muzzle Energy = {[.5*1200/7000]/32.2}*1800*1800 = 8,625 ft-lbs
Recoil Velocity = {[147*2059+1200*1800]/20}*7000 = 17.6 f/s
Recoil Energy = [.5*20/32.2]*17.6*17.6 = 96.2 ft-lbs

The 1200gr .729dia slug traveling at 1800fps
would have a Taylor knock out factor of 225.

I'm thinking I need to occupy silencerco.
I'd like to find out what's the delay on my custom Osprey suppressor for the .50GI.
To be honest, I would use just about any excuse to hang out with those guys at Silencerco and "occupy" their time.

I tried to modify my 50 GI Conversion with Mepolite (Model 20) night sights. Nothing worked! The front sights could not be attached because of the recess on the back side of the slide, the sight stud and bolt was resting too close for the 3/16 driver to fit into the recess. The rear sight did not fit the dovetail notch and the Clock rear sight tool would nor work on the larger slide dimentions vs the Model 20 Glock. Is there a brand and model of night sights that will work? Any help will be appreciated.
