Can anyone think of any modifications that would improve the .50 GI, specifically? I realize that virtually everything has been invented for the .45.

I agree with you, but the mag would have to be limited to 10 in California. I would like full coverage checkering on the front strap, a flattened and serrated slide, and checkering on the rear of the slide. I'll put in another plug for stainless.

That's too easy. Stainless G21 receiver, checkered w/GI upper. I wouldn't be interested in more than 10 rounds...at all.

Did I mention that I prefer steel to composite? Personal quirk.

I skipped over that part. I have never heard of a stainless G21 until now. Thanks! Now about the Bomar-type sight. If you cut a new dovetail, you would have to fill the old one with weld. IIRC that would require chroming to cover. If lucky, the cut for burying the "Bomar" might remove the old dovetail, if there is enough metal.

You're correct, you would need to weld and re-mill the Novak dovetail to switch to bomar. I was comparing the Bomar on my Les Baer to the Novak on the GI. I was trying to convince Alex that the 6" long-slide (#4) would be the GI get a Bomar cut, but his focus is manufacturing-centric, which rejects each addition option available, based on the trouble it causes in funding, inventory, drafting time. The 6" (#4) would also be the ideal stainless GI because the lower slide velocity.....even though I got an M1, I would still look at another GI with these features. If only he could even keep up with current orders :(

He probably doesn't want to send six more to California for drop testing, either. As you probably know, Bomar went out of business about two years ago. I wish I had stashed a few.

There are still bomar-ish sights out there

Looks like I'm getting some shredder grips and magwell for my m1.

Apparently, from the few responses, the .50 GI is virtually perfect as is!

10Ring,

I would agree with that. Every part seems to be as good as it can be done and they all work together to become what is the best handgun I have ever had. Shot my first group at 25 yards last week, 5 rounds into 1 1/4 inches the first try, did not try to improve that. Not a big deal to some people, but that is the best group I've ever shot at 25 yards. I'm at the age now where my eyes can focus on the sights, OR the target, but not both at the same time.

Starting next week and shooting a hundred rounds a week for the next 10 weeks brings us to Saturday, April 24th, at, say, 7:35pm. See you then.

This is a warning to everyone...............be careful of what you post on the internet for all to see, least it come back to haunt you. I've shot 40 rounds to date. I should call Alex tomorrow and BEG him to overnight 960 loaded rounds. Taking donations here.
