Who was it that said the true beauty of the 1911 was on the inside?

Here's one I came up with about 14 years ago. "Cosmetics have never won a gunfight". That saying still flows around at WC where I use to work. Now I actually heard it at shooting competitions, from people that I've never seen before.
Well, OK I still like nice looking guns with all the extras on, but the best "cosmetic" still rule ! and thats the beauty made on the inside, that makes it click and tic right.

That's why I like British Best Grade Double rifles. The lockwork looks better than the outside.

10 Ring,
You'd be surprised about how high % of especially 1911 customers ask for, better looking grips, finishes and new sights, safeties etc. and no other improvements. And then its their #1 self denfense gun.

Maybe it gives them confidence, but most likely bragging rights.
